Fed by groundwater filtered through chalk, these rivers are known for their clear, cool water and rich variety of plant and animal life. They are found in very few places worldwide—and England is home to most of them.
The Project
Bringing England’s
chalk rivers to a wider audience
The Chalk River Project was created to raise awareness of the decline of these rare rivers and share the work being done to restore and protect them. A documentary film and this website will bring those stories to a wider audience and encourage greater involvement.

Protecting chalk rivers involves people with different knowledge, responsibilities and connections to them. The project brings those perspectives together and shares the work already being done.
